Scripture Text:
Paul warns the Corinthians: "Therefore judge nothing before the
appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in
darkness and will expose the motives of men's hearts. At that time each will receive
his praise from God." (1 Cor. 4:5)

Thought:
Do you ever look around those around you and wonder how people get away
with the things they do? I do. I sometimes get discouraged when I see people
living an unholy lifestyle, yet seem to be a success in everything they do. I see
people praised for acting in ways that are contrary to what I've been taught, and how I've
been raised. Paul gives us these words of encouragement. He tells us that when
Christ comes again, he will "expose the motives of men's hearts". Jesus
came into this world with a great light. He shared that light with his disciples and
told them (us) that they (we) are the light of the world. Furthermore, when he comes
again, he will once again come with light. That light will be used to expose the
darkness of this world. And, in the end, the praise of God will be upon us.
Prayer:
Our God and Father, Help me to be patience, Lord. I see those around me living in
sin, yet they seem to have so much go right for them. Help me not to be jealous,
Lord. Help me to realize the light that is within me, the light that Christ bestowed
upon us with his Gospel. Show me how I can use this light to illuminate the world.
Allow me to expose some darkness along the way, so that they may also become
bearers of your light. And help me prepare for the day when Jesus will come again,
in all of his radiance, and glory. In the name of Jesus Christ, my Savior and
King, I pray. Amen.
